Dim Sum and Then Some . . .

Dim sum can be found easily here in Guangzhou. To put it simply, Dim Sum is traditionally eaten for breakfast and consists of many edible options including steamed dumplings, bread rolls stuffed with sweet pork, or pan fried turnips to name a few. You can either order them from a menu or they will be brought out in a cart for you to select.

A word to the wise...make sure you bring along someone who can either read Chinese or knows what to order! If you are American, and aren't used to eating things like chicken feet (a favorite in China), it would be best to be prepared.

Greg and Parker as we prepare for some Dim Sum. Little cups of tea, or plain hot water. Water is usually served hot here in China. It took some getting used to, but I kind of like it now when it is cold outside. Plus then you know it has been boiled.

We went out to eat with Joe, Rica and their family. This is a picture of Parker along with two of Joe's and Rica's delightful grown children. Rica did an amazing job ordering all our delicious dishes.

The dish on the right, is actually a dessert. No desserts in
China are overly sweet. Desserts, candies, cookies taste less sweet here in China than the U.S. This statement was true for this dessert as well, which was chewy and nutty and a little on a slightly gooey. I liked them (I had three). The dish on the left might look strange, but it turned out to be yummy shrimp.

Much of the food is actually steamed inside the baskets, which are then brought out and served on a table because we were a large group. Everything was so good! There is fried chicken rice, steamed dumplings and the small dish in the front with some red stuff is a hot and spicy oil which compliments the food if you eat a few drops at a time.

I believe these were shrimp dumplings--yum.

Parker and I loved these steamed rolls stuffed with a sweet pork.

Now for the "and then some."

At night, Guangzhou turns in to a spectacular show of lights. In fact, i wanted to dub Guangzhou as the "City of Lights," but someone told me that Hong Kong was already the City of Lights. So I guess Guangzhou can be the "City That Glows."

Picture of the Canton TV Tower. We could see this tower from our first place and it was really cool looking. At night the tower would glow changing colors seamlessly.

Now purple...

...now greenish-yellow...

...multi-color...

One more angle.

This was at The Canton Place, a residential and shopping area.

More shots, same place.

Same.

Electric cherry tree blossoms.

Close up.

Cool architecture for this bridge in Guangzhou.

These are only a few pictures, and for now, that's it. It's amazing because during the day, the city does not call one's attention, but at night, it's looks more exciting!
