First Impressions on First Trip Back to US From China

I returned to the United States (Utah) for a couple of months during the summer to spend some time with family and friends. So I will not be posting any blogs until I return to China in August. But I thought it would be interesting to post some of my first impressions of the U.S. after having lived in China for about six months.

Here we Go:

1. As we traveled from Asia to the U.S. the crowds changed around me and either I got shorter or the crowds got taller.

2. Blue, blue skies upon arrival. Still love seeing it every day.

3. The sidewalks and surrounding area looked sooooo empty. No people walking the streets. That was very, very strange to see after becoming accustomed to seeing so many people on the streets in China. It almost looked like a ghost town here in the U.S.

4. Sugar and sweets in most food-- even salads and soups. Having a sweet tooth, I never thought I would say this, but a lot of the food, although very yummy, is probably sweeter and richer than it needs to be. At least when I eat out. And proportions are crazy big sometimes.

5. Love being able to communicate so easily in my native language.

6. The birds here in Bountiful, Utah don't have pretty songs like they do in China. I don't know exactly what kinds of birds they are, but in China the birds sing much more beautifully.

7. A change in me that I noticed is that I am much more appreciative of little things such

Radio with pop music and English DJs
Tomatillos
Dunford doughnuts
Tap water that I can drink
The absence of Mosquitos
Dryer climate
Public Bathrooms with sit-down type seats

What I miss about China:

Fabulous noodles and chopsticks
Speaking Chinese with people
Beautiful sounding birds
Glassy Kiss yogurt
Spicy crunchy peas
Excitement of seeing something new on a regular basis

I will be posting again in August!
